MEMBER BENEFITS
For many years Strathclyde Police Federation has operated a
number of members Benefit Schemes that include Salary
Replacement, Personal Accident and Legal Protection. These three
schemes are now governed by Trust deed status and from time to
time the conditions, costs and benefits are reviewed and
re-negotiated.
Following a presentation from our insurance provider to the
Joint Branch Board on the 7th December 2006 the following
changes will apply from 22nd January 2007.
There will be a new benefits scale, which is designed to be
equal to the net amount of pay lost as a result of a member
being put on half pay. It takes into account reductions in tax,
national insurance and pension contributions, together with
incapacity benefit, and seeks to ensure that members who have
their pay cut under Reg 28 are in a No win / No lose situation.
The benefit previously ceased after 26 weeks payment, but will
now be maintained at the half pay level for up to 52 weeks. The
benefit will be capped at the top Chief Inspector pay point.
Those officers in the scheme above the rank of Chief Inspector
may wish to make private arrangements to fund any extra benefit
they may require. The benefit will be reviewed annually in line
with the Annual Pay Review.
In addition to the Salary Replacement Scheme (SRS), the benefit
payable under the Trust has been extended to provide a £10,000
lump sum on first diagnosis of any of a list of 21 critical
illnesses (full details
here).
If a member has any prior history of any of the listed illnesses
or associated condition, then that particular condition would be
excluded from benefit. However, any un-associated condition
would still be covered under the scheme.
In addition to the members benefit, cover is extended to any
dependant children of the member or their partner who are
between the age of 6 months and their 18th birthday.
The following is a brief resume of the various schemes, some of
which are administered by Strathclyde Police Federation; it
includes some figures, which although accurate at the time of
printing may now have been updated. For complete accuracy please
